Nearly 414,000 KitKat Bars Stolen – Truck Vanishes on Route from Italy to Poland
A truck carrying 414,000 KitKat bars – or 12 tons of chocolate – was hijacked while en route from Italy to Poland. The company claims the truck is still out there, but all the bars can be tracked by code.
How 413,793 KitKat Bars Vanished Into Thin Air
Last week, robbers made off with 413,793 KitKat bars.
The consignment weighed around 12 tonnes. It was travelling from Nestlé’s Italian factory to Poland to be distributed throughout Europe.
The truck and the treats are gone. Swiss chocolate producer Nestlé, which owns KitKat, said on Friday that the truck is still missing.
The wafer bars may find their way into the black market. But each bar is stamped with a batch code.
Nestlé says consumers, retailers and wholesalers can easily verify the product. Scan the code on the pack. If it matches the stolen cargo, the scanner will provide guidance on how to contact Nestlé.
Nestlé had a bit of fun with the story. “While we thank the criminals for their great taste, the reality is that cargo theft is becoming a growing problem for companies both large and small,” said the company.
The story will help to alert people to the problem. Cargo theft rings are increasingly sophisticated, and Nestlé hopes to highlight the issue.
